Best Run Of The Year!

Amazing, awesome, sick, stoked, incredible or how ever else you would like to describe it. I had the best run of the year the other day on the front side of summit. After riding tons of fresh pow on the Northwest Side of Mt Bachelor, my friends and I decided to see if Summit was going to open. After waiting patiently for twenty-five minutes, we got on the chair lift within the first ten chairs. With over two feet of fresh that had just fallen over the past several days, the Summit was looking prime.

As soon as I got off the chair I strapped in and was off on the solo shred line down the front side of the Summit run. With a totally untouched line top to bottom, I slayed the pow. Simply the best run of the year!

With a unusually large storm pattern that keeps running into Mt Bachelor, we are looking to receive another 2-4 feet of snow in the next couple days. So don’t miss your opportunity to get your best run of the year and head up to Mt Bachelor over the next couple days and shred!

Get Ready For The Storm!

If you haven’t been to the mountain lately, then you’ve missed some great sunny groomer days. But if it’s pow you want to shred, then your in luck. With the National Weather Service calling for snow though this Saturday and partly sunny skies on Sunday, it should be an epic week at Mt Bachelor. Although it’s been a weird winter with little snow and warm temps, the base coverage at Mt Bachelor is holding on and in pretty good shape. During and after the storm, which is moving in as I speak, the conditions will only get better as the week progresses. So get your sticks waxed and look forward to some sick summit runs on Sunday hopefully.

So are u still riding that beat up board or pair of skis. Are your pants soaking wet after only a couple runs at Mt. Bachelor. Then you definitely need to check out one of Bend’s best ski and board shops. Skjersaa’s is conveniently located on Century Dr., on your way to Mt. Bachelor. With a Dutch Bros. coffee shop right next door and the Spork mobile restaurant in the front. You can get your day started right and find the gear you need to make your day on the mountain the best it can be.

Skjersaa’s Sports Shop, established in 1958, has all the best and hottest ski and snowboard gear and apparel at the best prices around. The first thing you’ll notice about Skjersaa’s is the unique building. And upon entering the Chalet Style building you will find a roaring fire place that just makes you feel at home. The best customer service in the business will assist you in finding everything from a new snowboard, bindings, pants, helmets and anything else you can think of. As well as a full tune and repair shop, you can rent or demo what you need if you haven’t decided what to get or your just visiting for the weekend.

Oregon Cup At Mt Bachelor

If you were at the 1st Oregon Cup Series Event on Saturday night, then you know what Im talking about. With close to sixty competitors in the various age groups, there was over $2000 in cash and a bunch of prizes from the event sponsors. This is the 2nd year for the night time rail jam comp at Mt Bachelor and it looked to be a success. The Clearing Rock Bar had beer specials by Sessisons Beer Company and a Band. Outside there was amplified music, and big bonfire and a awesome competition going on. With hundreds of people in attendendance the event was bigger and better than last years.

So don’t be out of the lo0p and miss all the action. This is only the first of many events and competitions at Mt Bachelor for the 09-10 season. Disco Skate Night!

Beggining this Friday and the first Friday of each month, the 7th Mtn Resort Ice Rink has a disco skate night. The ice rink is open for public skating prior to the disco portion of the evening event. The disco skate starts at 7pm and goes till 10pm. If you arrive in costume then you will receive $2 off the admission and skate rental price. The event includes specially diso theme lighting on the ice rink as well as enhanced disco music. During the skate session there will be some games played and an ultimate skate off for the top 3 skaters of the evening. Prizes may be room stays at the 7th Mtn Resort, dinner at Seasons Restaurant at the 7th Mtn Resort or free ice passes.

So come on out to the Ice Rink at the 7th Mtn resort and get you disco skate groove on. Just head out on Century drive towards Mt Bachelor, only 7 miles outside of Bend. You may also enjoy the Bar and Lounge next to the ice rink to warm up with some great food and drink specials.

So now that the first winter holiday season has ended, this is the perfect time for you to get your legs back in shape. With most people working and with the kids in school during the week, the slopes at Mt Bachelor are not crowded. If you live here like I do, then your lucky to have this gap between Thanksgiving and the Christmas Holidays. We have roughly 2 weeks before the next wave of visitors comes to Central Oregon. In this slow time we can take advantage of the slopes without having to look over your shoulder on every turn or jump. Although we only have a 40″ base, it is only the beginning of the season, so watch out for the nasty lava that we know all to well. Until we get a little more base, the deep trees might be a bit sketchy, but the groomers, parks and natural jibs are always fun.

Prelude to the 09/10 Shred Season!

As we patiently await the opening day tomorrow at Mt Bachelor, I wonder how the season will turn out. I hope that we get tons of snow of course, as this is what makes or breaks a season. We begin the season with a base of 25″ at the base and 18″ at mid mountain, so make sure when you catch that first chair at 9am you don’t end your season quick on a pile of rocks. If you really want to catch one of those first chairs of the new season then you better get your gear together tonight. I know that everything isn’t always where you think you put it and it takes awhile to get in the groove of remembering what you need when you go to the mountain. With only two lifts operating tomorrow, Pine and Sunshine, it will more than likely be busy on the hill. Mt Bachelor expects to open more terrain daily as well, which should help to spread out the crowds. One last thing, lets all try our best not to run anyone of the road on the way to Mt Bachelor. Try to always drive according to road conditions and be a safe driver, we’re all just trying to shred. See you all up there on the begging of another epic season at Mt Bachelor.

When your head to the mountain to go shred some fresh pow on Mt Bachelor or just going to work on a cold winter day. Don’t forget to start your day right with the fast and friendly service at the Dutch Bros. Coffee drive through coffee huts conveniently located around Bend. There is now doubt that your coffee will be hot and fresh as it is almost as hot as the lava that ounce flowed from the Cascade Mountain Range. With the convenience of the drive through style coffee hut you don’t even need to leave your warm care which also saves you a bunch of time. As the offical white water raft guide last summer for the entire Dutch Bros. Coffee crew, I can personally vouch for the great attitude and friendly service you will receive every time you drvie through. So warm up you morning or even your afternoon with some great drinks at your local Dutch Bros. Coffee!

Let It Snow!

After receiving aing dusting of snow little more than a week ago on Mt Bachelor. We just got our first considerable dump of snow on the mountains the other night, totaling 8 inches of heavy base building snow. Although this first bit of snow will more than likely melt over the next few days, i can’t help but think about cruising the slopes. As a resident of Bend for the past 10 years I’ve spent a lot of time snowboarding at Mt Bachelor. With some of the highest annual snowfall totals and the driest powder in the North West, Mt Bachelor is a powder hounds paradise. We had over 500 inches of total snowfall last year and this is an El Nino year, so that means we could have another epic year on the mountain.

So If your looking to get some days on Mt Bachelor and you are a resident or a second home owner that frequents the area. Then a season pass might be a great deal for you, especially since Mt Bachelor has recently extended its preseason pass prices through Friday Oct 9. Even if you planning a short trip for the winter already, there are some multi day passes at awesome prices. And for those of you who just plane miss the early season deals, Mt Bachelor is also doing a kind of sliding scale day pass pricing depending of weather and open lifts.

The season at Mt Bachelor usually begins around Thanksgiving weekend and goes through the end of May. So with almost 7 months of skiing and snowboarding you have plenty of opportunity to catch some great days on the mountain. Offering all types of terrain that will keep any level rider looking forward to that next epic run. Start over on the West Village side of the mountain where the main lodge is located for some green terrain for the kids and the best bar on the mountain for the adults. Or cruise to the top of the mountain up the Summit lift for and epic view and some steeper terrain. The North West side of the resort for the best powder and tree runs with all kinds of wind lips and drops for the advanced rider. If you have the family with you and your looking to take it easy where the weather is usually a little more mild. Then head over to the east side of the hill to the Sunrise Lodge for food, beer, and a family atmosphere with a bunch of easier terrainfor the whole family. There is ample parking on this side of the mountain with two large parking lots or free shuttle buss service from the West Village side. The entire mountain can be assessed from either lodge as Mt Bachelor is a unique volcanic cone shaped mountain.

So even though we are more than a month to go before opening day, don’t forget to get geared up and grab those early season deals on the passes. Cause looking good on the mountain in all your new gear only matters if your actually rinding the mountain. Get your passes and come shred the volcano this winter!
